About Doom Dooma College Doomdooma College established in the year 1967 is a government provincialised college affiliated to Dibrugarh University and recognized by the University Grants Commission under 2(f) and 12B.  Vision of the College  “To provide higher and holistic education to the aspirants in order to make them socially conscious individuals with proper understanding of the worth of human values.”

Mission of the College “To enhance the academic excellence of the students by exploring and channeling their potential through diverse programmes of the Universities, Career Oriented Programmes and Co-curricular Activities with modern infrastructure and competent faculty.”
The college is committed to its vision and mission in all its endeavours and seeks to materialize into reality the great concept of accomplishment through knowledge “Gyane Parisamapyate”. 


To achieve this objective, the college offers diverse programmes of the Universities, Career Oriented Programmes and co-curricular activities with sophisticated infrastructure and competent faculty. The college is a multi faculty college with Arts, Commerce and Science streams. The college offers honours programme in Assamese, English, Economics, Education, History, Pol. Science, Commerce, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology. The college presently has an enrollment of 2813 students. 


Keeping in view of increasing number of pass percentage in higher secondary arts stream, the college has been running morning section to accommodate all the aspirants seeking for higher studies from the academic session 2014-15 as there was no other degree college nearby. But owing to the establishment of two new Government Model Colleges in the district, the college has closed the morning section for the first semester students from the academic session 2020-21.   The results of the Degree final examination are quite satisfactory. The college produced average 250-300 graduates in all the three streams annually and out of which 40% of the students secured first class. A good number of students got admission into the various post graduate programmes.

The College runs Certificate courses in Spoken English, Computer Application, Motor Driving, Beauty Parlouring, Cutting & Tailoring and Embroidery. The College offers various Skill Enhancement Course like Desk Top Publishing & Photoshop, National Service Scheme, Vermi-Compost, Travel & Tourism Management, Entrepreneurship Development, Creative writing to the undergraduate students.  The college periodically organizes Seminars, Workshop, Faculty Development Programmes etc.  Faculty members of the college are engaged in research activities by presenting research papers in national/international conferences, publishing papers in reputed journals and books. 40% of the faculty members have acquired Ph.D. degree and 30% are in the process. A Good number of Text Book/Reference books are written by our faculty member and published by reputed publishers. A few books are also published by the college publication cell.

The infrastructure of the college is quite satisfactory with more than 100000 sq. ft. built up area in a Myadi land of approximately 60 bighas. The college has very sophisticated administrative building with conference hall, well-equipped Science Laboratories, Computer Laboratory, Language Laboratory, Education & Psychological Laboratory, Digital Classrooms, Play Ground, Handball, Badminton & Basketball Courts, Multi-Gym, fully acoustic Auditorium, Canteen, Botanical Garden, Historical & Cultural Museum, Hostels. The college has a very effective Students’ Support Services Centre with Students’ Union office, NCC (Boys’ & Girls’) and NSS offices, Women cell, Health Cell, Career Counseling & Guidance Cell, Equal Opportunity Centre etc. The College has well equipped facilities like rail, ramps, wash rooms and equipments for the differently abled students.

The state of art Central Library with Digital Lounge, Book Bank, Mini Conference Room having more than 30,000 books and good number of magazines, newspapers and journals. Through N-List programme students and faculty members can search more than 100 national and international journals. From this year the college library has been opened for the people of this area at the evening hours and so inside the library the college set up a children’s corner with more than 200 books. 

The Governing Body, the highest statutory body of the college, provides the road map and overall guidelines for quality policy in order to create a conducive teaching-learning environment and to acquire the academic excellence of the college. The Govt. of Assam plays a vital role in executing the developmental plan of the college. The various sub-committees are formed with Principal, Vice-principal, teaching and non-teaching staff to manage different aspects relating to discipline, grievances, examination, admission, sports, cultural activities, hostels etc.  The IQAC of the College provide all round supports for enhancement of quality policies and plans. Different sub-committees are formed under IQAC for proper implementation of the plans and objectives for quality policy. Doomdooma College Students’ Union is a general body of the students of the college. The Parent-Teachers Association “Abhibhawak Mancha” and the Alumni Association of the college work for the development of the Institution. The college has formed various Cultural & Environment Committees such as “Prakriti Oikya Mancha” for conservation of nature and cleans & green environment, Eco Club for maintaining the ecology, “Sanskritik Mancha” for organizing various socio-cultural activities. The departmental forums viz., Commerce Forum, Economics Forum, Political Science Forum, “Asomiya Sahitya Chora”, Physics Forum, History Forum are established to sensitize the students towards discipline specific impact on society at large. The college provides scholarship to economically disadvantaged meritorious students, Students travel concession, Mentoring facility, Remedial coaching etc.

The study centers of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University and Dibrugarh University Open and Distance Learning offer diverse Post-graduate, Undergraduate and Career Oriented programmes like BBA, Mass Communication & Journalism. The College introduces Coaching classes for various competitive examinations conducted by UPSC, APSC, SSC, TET etc. and also set up an examination centre of Tata Consultancy Services so that the aspirants can appear online competitive Examinations from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

As a part of Digital India initiative, Doom Dooma College implemented online admission, online examination form fill up, online payment/cashless transaction etc. processes from the academic session 2017-18.

The college is very conscious about the environment. To provide an eco-friendly environment, the college emphasized on plantation, set up rain water harvesting plant, Vermi-compost plant, Botanical garden, recycle of non-biodegradable waste in a very organized manner. Periodically the college provides training on preparation of households items like bags, purse, files etc. with the eco-friendly material such as bamboo, cane, water hyacinth etc. to the students.  For sustainable development, the college set up a Banana garden with more than 500 banana plants of different varieties. As a part of Green campus the college set up a unit for assembling LED bulb to meet the requirement of low power consumption LED bulb of the college.

The NSS and NCC units of the college are fully functional. More than 300 students are involved as NCC cadets and NSS volunteers. The NSS unit provides assistance and conducts awareness programmes during lockdown period, disaster relief, swachcha abhiyan, Yoga Camps, fire safety, health, voter awareness etc. The performance NCC cadets of the college are quite significant. They are actively participated in the training camps, participated in the Republic Day Parade etc. A good number of cadets appointed in the Indian Army, Assam Police as well.

Some of our Alumni brought laurels to the college. NCC cadet Sri Rahul Borsaikia received the prestigious Bir Chilarai Award of Assam, Joycheng Joy Dohutia received Rajatkamal award for his film “Khanduk”, Sri Lenin Borgahain received President’s award for entrepreneurship development, Sri Dulal Manki received Padmashree award in 2020 and many more.

From the academic session 2019-20, Dibrugarh University implements Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in the Under Graduate Academic Programmes. The college is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for the first time in the year 2004-05 and re-accredited in the year 2011-12. Now the college is working hard to get reaccredited by NAAC for the third time.
